You all have followed me during the last two moves. From one home in the O.C. to another one in Dana Point. And then back to the condo we owned (purchased when hubby was commuting from Dallas) after first daughter headed to college.
We were okay with living smaller. It would be simpler. So we dumped the Texas sized furniture along with many belongings. Did pretty well. We could park two cars in our garage and our place was pretty much clutter free. Lean and mean.
But now an international move looms. We’ve agreed to rid ourselves of most everything and start fresh. Totally our choice. A lot of the electronics won’t work over there anyway. And household goods and furniture can be purchased somewhat inexpensively.
So we’re selling the house. Two cars. Bikes. Furniture. The Cuisinart. The Nespresso coffee machine. Wii system. PS3. The almost brand new BBQ grill. Dishes.
During the previous moves I asked myself, “Do I really want or need this?”
This time it is like,”Do I really want or need this?”
What would you take? Besides your clothes, family photos, jewelry and personal records/files.
What would be your top three “must bring’ items?
A special gift? Treasured book? A family heirloom?
I am just curious.
The one thing I will never give up would be a book that Granny Lennon gave me. “This Singing World.” It’s one of the few things she actually gave me, one of the few memories I have of her. It it the one thing (other then my husband) that I will rescue if my house is on fire.
That’s funny. I have a jewelry box, a green Connemara type bracelet (Jo still has hers) and a book of Irish fairy tales that she gave me. They will all come with me. I also (believe it or not) still have a beautiful red plaid cape that your Mom made me when I was probably eight years old. I just can’t seem to part with it. My kids have used it during their impromptu plays and when they wanted to play “Lil Red Riding Hood”
Love, Determination, Patience.
Amen, my brother, Amen! We need them all!
I’d bring as many rocks as my hubbie would allow.
